WHAT WAS THE WORST ASPECT OF TRENCH WARFARE?
WHY WAS WW1 FOUGHT IN THE TRENCHES?

HOW EFFECTIVE WERE THE NEW WEAPONS? Did tanks, aeroplanes and gas warfare break the stalemate?

Was Genral Haig to blame for 60,000 deaths at the Somme?

Da worst aspect of trench warfare was when all the dead bodys were left there to be eaten by rats or jus kept there to rot away .Also all the people had to sleep and eat in the same place for a very long time which would of been un comfortable and hard for the peoples living environment .

The reason why world war 1 was fort in the trenches was because basically because it was all in france . The old tradition of cavalary charges wearnt going to work because of the invention of machine guns, which moved down all the horses and soldiers.Trenches were the only form of shelters form the enemy.Basically the idea was to get each side into eachothers trench and kill as many soliders as possiable to defeat them so that they would go back from were they had come from .

world war 1 was faught in trenches because it protected the soldiers from enermy fire. i think the worst aspect of world war 1 was that men were forced to fight and when they died their bodies were just left where they were until they either rotted away or were eaten by rats. this would have caused pyscological damage to the soldiers if they saw one of their friends or maybe even a relative in that condition.

aneela said...

In the trenches there were daily deaths, rat infestations, diseases, frogs and lice. The lice caused something called trench fever. It would start with a very severe pain followed by a high fever. Another disease was called trench foot. It was a fungal infection of the feet caused by cold, wet and unsanitary trench conditions. The smell was the worst. Rotting bodies lay around in thousands. Approximately 200,000 men were killed on the Somme battlefields, many of which lay in shallow graves.
World War 1 started when Gavrilo Princip shot Arch duke Franz Ferdinand and his wife.

the reason why they fought in trenches was to protct soldiers from flying bullets and shells.
the protection wasnt that good as some still got injured.but what was worst that because the trenches was dug soo deep the soldiers had to walk through wet mud and because the couldnt remove or change their boots or socks they would get a infection called trench foot which makes the foot go numb and gradually turns blue and purple.it the foot is untreated and goes worse it could mean amputation.also the trenches was full of rats so if someone died in battle the rats would chew the body. the trenches was horrible place which other than the war killed the soldiers.

Thameena9D said...

Trenches were used for the soldiers protections. I think the worst aspect of the trench warfare was the disease that the soldiers got which was called trench feet. This was caused because of the wet and muddy conditions in the trenches and also because of the animals that ate away the soildiers feet in the trenches. Some soldiers did'nt know what to do with their wet socks thata they had and would just keep them on which also caused rotting of the feet. Another bad aspect i can think of is the limited amount of space the soldiers had to lve in. They did everything there.e.g sleep, eat and cook there food there too.

1 of da famous battles of ww1 was da somme offensive- led by brit douglas haig and frenchie ferdinand foch, who fought german leaders max von gallwitz and fritz von below. the entente had da advantage if numbers throughout the whole batlle, but had more casualties dan da germans. dere was fights over da field of battle includin artillery fire, bombing and aerial dogfights on top of occasional raids an attacks across the 18 mile trenches. da fight was decided as a draw, not sure why or wt 4, but the fight was actually jus a mass o deaths and diseaeses.

trench warfare is a horrible time to be in. there was bombs being thrown everywhere up, down all around. people were killed every second due to bombs being thrown, machine guns being fired, and the unhygienic disease trench foot. trench foot was caused to not constantly changing socks because of the wet and muddy ground. it was a horrible place to be while it was world war 1. dead bodies were thrown randomnly everywhere the remainders of the bodies were chewed or nibbled off my rats. rats were infested everywhere there was not a hole where there was not a rat. rats were the rulers of the land. when everything was silent in the night, there was a scream there was no silence in the land. this experience of being in the world war 1, soldiers wre marked with it forever. they were scarred with there experience of being a soldier in world war 1. The lice caused something called trench fever.World War 1 started when Gavrilo Princip shot Arch duke Franz Ferdinand and his wife.the trenches was horrible place which other than the war killed the soldiers.

trench warfare was a terrible place to be. the conditions were absolutely horrible. dead bodies were chewed and nibbled by rats. trench foot was a common disease in the camp for world war 1, it is basically the swelling of the foot, this was caused by not changing socks constantly, to stop trench foot a change of socks was necessary, due to the floor being wet, and muddy. In the trenches there were daily deaths, rat infestations, diseases, frogs and lice. The lice caused something called trench fever. the trenches was horrible place which other than the war killed the soldiers.

Trench warfare

Trench warfare was a method used in world war 1. Which involved both sides lines of defence staying in trenches this method is extremely dangerous yet defensive.

Trench warfare is dangerous as there are many war acounts that stated that peoples feet would have constantly been submmerged under water and they wouldnt have been dried. As a result of wet feet
their feet would become numb and parts of their feet would die and fall off.

In the trenches you would find a trench board to stand on and a telescope type thing that allows you to look over the trench. You would also have a small place to sleep but that could easily collapse. your protection in the trenches is mainly sand bags.

In world war 1 and trench warfare rats and other vermin creatures
woud infest trenches, making it virtually impossible to bury a dead body as it would probably burst. reavilng massive amounts of rats from the corpse.

My over all opinion of trench warfare is that it could have been very succesful. But faults of trench warfare outweigh the positives. So I think trench warfare would have been an unpleasent audile and if people that took part i world war 1 knew the truth about trench warfare beforehand they wouldnt have joined.

Over 10 million soldiers were wounded or killed in the war which was between 1914 and 1918. Many of the soldiers suffered from trench foot the men stood in water without being able to remove there shoes or socks. The skin eventually turned red and blue if it was untreated it would of been amputated. The rats would eat the dead bodies the rats grew larger as they had a lot of bodies to eat. soldiers would hide behind the trenches so they wouldnt get shot. soldiers would try to wound themselves so they would be taken home if they were found out to do this they were sent to prison.

Trenches were first established and used in the first wrld war on both sides so they both had an equal chance of defeating the opisite side

Why were Trenches used in world war one (1)?

The reason why Trenches were used in world war one (1) was to protect one and other from gun fire but onthe other hand Trenches were a bit awful the reason because of this was the accomadation this were very pleasant but it was the base camp for all solider apart from thier normal home.

Life for soldiers in trenches were harsh they had to do everything there they shaved washed and even went to the toilet in there.
The worst thing in the trenches was the rats and the trench foot the trench foot would cause a disease to your feet which would really hurt when you walk and then when you fall out of pain the rats will come to eat your body when you die.
Life was harsh and when you were ready to be put up on the front line to kill the germans you would die from machine gun fire before you could say charge.
The best and the worst weapon was the tank it scared the germans to death

m.t said...

the way the generals planned the new weapons and the effect it would have on the war was wrong
because the main weapons were the
tank
gas
aeroplanes
machine guns and the artillary

they wernt effective becuase the the general thought that the tank is big and massive no one can get inside it so it would let us destroy the army and we won
however the tanks were slow and got stuck in no mans island which was carless and useless

the machine guns were good they shot 100 bullets/second and 600 a min they would wipe out all the germans in a second we walk over and we won
but the machine gun was reloaded and two people had to operate it and every minute a cool water pipe cooled down the gun because it would get red hot

the gas was meant to be good becuase it would poison the opposition and kill them but when they the soldiers threw the gas the wind would blow it back and they would die

the artillary was an 8inch shell with explosive powder this shall kill everyone but this would kill however this shall create a swamp in the no mans island pulling ecry one down

the areoplane was useless it would only fly to a certain height and the machine guns from below could shoot it down.

overall all the new weapons were useless,

Thameena9D said...

i dont think the new weapons were really that effective because firstly the tanks they built were very very slow and noisy and out of the 42 made only about 4 of the actually worked because most of them got stuck in mud or something. Also the gases they used were rubbish because sometimes when they threw the gases at the enemies the gas used just blow back at them and it ended up killing them instead of their enemy. Another rubbish weapon they used were the aeroplanes, they did not have good defence system at all. I dont really think anything broke the stalemate because none of the new weapons made were a really big factor on any deaths.

Anonymous said...

Were weapons in world war one 1 effective? NO

My opinion on the weapons used in world war one is they were rubbish.THe reson why I have said that wepons then were rubbish is that there were tank, big tanks to make any one evn the toughest soliders run away and chicken out but in reality they weren't so frightning with a maximum speed less then 3 mph and a inside climate over 40C don't forget that 2/3 of them broke out side the garages no wonder the army decide to produce a new weapon with a mass destruction.
Did this weapon come to life at that era? ummmmmmmmmmmm no

The wort aspects of World War 1 was all of the dead bodies laying on the ground rotten away and been eaten by rats en maggots and some other stuff. Also they had to sleep in a very small bed which werent covered from the top so it kept raining.
World War 1 was fought in the Trenches so that they could be protected from gun ¬ fire and that they could defend there land by holding a strong defense over the enemy.
The planes en stuff could not break through the stalemate because the weapons that they had + tanks werent strong enough to break through there defense`s.

Aron 9D said...

i dont think new weapons and technology solved the ww1 stalemate, it was solved on political terms cuz both sides was runnin out of supplies and resources,in the war and in the germany, france and england. the weapons were better and more effective, but both became armed more advanced a the same time, causing a stalemate again, but with more powerful equipment. the war was ended since the nations would collapse if they continued fighting. the germans signed an armistice admitting they had surrendered and they were to blame for ww1 - this ended he war, the actual fights were always in a stalemate.

The Worst Aspects Of WW1 Are The Way They Were All left In The Same Spot And Not Moved, And The Way The People Walked On The Mud So Much Their Feet Became Infected, And The Smell That Would Of Came From Their Dead Body That Had Been there For Over All Them Years.

The trench warfares were indeed very dirty because there were dead bodies in the trenches. There were a lot of trench rats.No Man's Land contained a considerable amount of barbed wire. In the areas most likely to be attacked, Over 10million soldiers were either killed or wounded.between 1914 and 1918 new advances in technology means that over 1000 soldiers could die in an hour,Soldiers of UK thought that this war that started in august would end by the time of christmas. But they stayed there for for years actually. If a bomb dropped into a trench it would be hard to move so all the soldiers in that trench would die.
The trenches were made for the soldiers to be protected from any bullets. When the leaders made some technology to kill the oponents, they used clean and proper trenches , when the soldiers USED them it was a complete misery because they were desgined for proper clean trenches. For example the tank.It was called the tank because they rhought that there were spys' when they were making it . so the spies thought that it was just an origional tank for water
The spark of world war 1 is when arch duke francz ferinand was assasinated in 1914 when the driver took the wrong turn.

( i have changed my account )

maria 9d said...

The new wepons in world war 1 weren't very effective as the tanks were extremly heavy and stuffy inside so the drivers would have been very uncomfortable, also, the tanks couldn't go very fast , their top speed was 3mph. The tanks usually broke down before they even reached the battlefield, all they were really good for was scaring the soldiers. The planes were light and could be shot down easily. The most they could be used for was entertainment for the soldiers. The gases weren't reliable because while they may have been ablle to kill the enermy the wind could change and just as easily kill soldiers from your side. None of these wepons could have broken the stalemate. They may have worked if only one side had advanced but both sides advanced at nearly the same time which caused the stalemate again.

by showing the biased side of it.They used lots of good points by not showing the conseqences of joining the war by making it into a propaganda. In there posters they show the good things like you'll see adventures ,experince differnt things, see and feel different and learn different skills by joining the army. They dont show the bad things like people dying and getting injured or saying how many people got killed in the great war because they want the other side of the view.

I don’t think General Haig was to blame fully but partly because he did come up with to many ideas and didn’t plan the attack properly. He should’ve changed his plans when he saw what the Germans general idea was which kept on happening everyday. He also should have not listened to the French general and should have followed what he planned before. But the reason I don’t think he is fully to blame is because there are so many other people we could be blaming such as the person who gave him the job and the French general. The French general should have not attacked, before the time which they planned on attacking. Also another person we can blame is the person who started the whole war off such as Gravillo Principal. He started this whole war and if this was didn’t happen then no one would have died because of some war.
